The Most Favourite Recipes from 2017

As I’m making plans to make the switch from Poppy and the Bees to The Vegan Larder, and it’s the end of the year, I thought it might be nice to look back on some of the biggest hits from Poppy and the Bees of 2017. A little looking back to say thank you, before leaping into a whole new year and new phase.

So how have I come up with this favourite recipe list?

Well, it’s a highly complex calculation of visits to a recipe over the course of the year,  combined with reactions on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, along with a twist of feedback from friends & recipes that I like cooking & eating the best.

(It’s not really a calculation, more of a quick overview that is highly skewed by my personal preferences, but don’t let that get in the way of enjoying the list!)

So .. without further ado, and in no particular order.. the favourite recipes of 2017!

  1. Gourmet Spaghetti Bolognese!

This isn’t the most visited recipe, but it is probably one of the recipes that I use most (and love the most!)

2. Butternut Squash & Carlin (chickpea) Curry

This recipe is a firm favourite with us, plus loads of you love it too!

3. My Family Favourite Lentil & Tomato soup.

This isn’t a 2017 recipe, but rather a perennial recipe that my mother used to make from the Diet for a Small Planet cookbook. There are some recipes that just need to be passed on.. and on… and on….

4. Lentil Hummus

Not all hummus is made from chickpeas. This delicious variation on the classic was inspired by my friend Raffaella & is loved more than any other hummus by The Gardener.

5. Spicy Spanish Potatoes (Aka Patatas Bravas!)

This isn’t a 2017 recipe however, it is however one of the most popular recipes on the blog, visited over and over in 2017. It’s an easy tray-bake, but tastes so much more than it should do with such simple ingredients.

6. Aussie Breakfast Corn Fritters.

One of my all time favourite Aussie breakfast (or anytime) recipes, now veganised. It’s not just mine, it’s also one of 2017’s most visited recipes. Go make it for a hangover, or make it for dinner. Mix it up, use peas! Whatever.. it’s delicious and should become a part of your regular repertoire.

The next two recipes are super delicious, but also super indulgent. Made for parties & entertaining. Or for keeping in the freezer and bringing out and popping in the oven for special snacks.

7. Vegan “Prawn” Toasts

8. Cheezy “Chorizo” Croquettas (vegan, obvs!)

9. The Best Broccoli in the Universe!

This recipe is really new to the site, but I include it, because A) I love it. and B) my brother Steve told me he had made it for Christmas and loved it. Go make it. Eat little trees and smile!

So raise a glass, and welcome in the new year. There will be many new things to come, including a whole transferring Poppy and the Bees to a new website (The Vegan Larder!) and business with a fabulous new business partner (Say Hi to Vanessa!) . I’m excited and looking forward to what 2018 will bring.

x Louise
